If you believe your puppy has a congenital defect, we will need proof in writing from your vet and a second opinion from a vet of our choice, before reimbursement will occur. We are doing our utmost to try to prevent congenital defects, but as in humans, thing can happen that are out of our control. Some potential problems cannot be tested for at this point in time. If your puppy develops hip dysplasia symptoms prior to 2.5 years of age, we require a OFA or Penn Hip evaluation to help us see the issue accurately. Hip dysplasias are not purely genetic, they are a combination of genetics and environmental factors. When your puppy is with us, we will do what we can to prevent expression of hip dysplasias, and we will educate you as to how you can continue to protect your puppy from developing it as well. Our parent dogs have had their hips evaluated and their grandparents hips evaluated. But there could be an unknown gene handed down from Great Uncle Fred who was never tested because he went to a pet home. There is always still a risk that parents and grandparents can have great hips and a puppy is thrown that develops hip dysplasia.
